A cross functional team introduced Lean techniques into operational activities achieving substantial cost reductions whilst improving the overall service to clients. Barclays Wealth has numerous offices within Glasgow and has engaged a number of teams on the Lean Management Thinking Programme. With total savings in excess of £80,000, Lean projects have also had a major impact on the company's carbon footprint. Cornerstone provides care and support to children, young people and adults with disabilities in communities throughout Scotland. Following the completion of the Lean Management Thinking Programme, the Dundee-based team identified the potential to reduce waste to the value of £84,000.00. Located in Central Scotland, this regional distribution centre services all Marks & Spencer stores within Scotland and the North East of England. By focussing Lean implementation within a concentrated area of the business, the team were successful in achieving significant reductions in both cost and carbon emissions.
